E-E-A-T

In brief

E-E-A-T is Google's quality framework with four factors: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness for evaluating web content.

What Is E-E-A-T?

E-E-A-T is the concept behind nearly all Google Core Updates in recent years: Google wants to ensure users receive trustworthy information from competent sources. You strengthen your E-E-A-T profile through author biographies, demonstrable expertise, consistent brand mentions, and genuine practical experience. Especially for YMYL topics like health, finance, and law, strong E-E-A-T is the baseline requirement for top rankings.

E-E-A-T is Google’s quality framework for evaluating website content, representing four core factors: Experience (the author’s first-hand experience), Expertise (subject matter competence), Authoritativeness (authority of the website), and Trustworthiness. Google expanded this framework in 2022 from the original E-A-T model, and it is central to quality evaluation — especially for sensitive content on health, finance, or legal matters (YMYL).

Technically, Google operationalizes E-E-A-T through several signals: author biographies with demonstrable expertise, transparent company information, HTTPS encryption, and the absence of warning signals (hacked pages, spam) on Google Safe Browsing. External signals like backlinks from trusted sites, citations in established media, and domain registration age also play a role. Google instructs quality raters to evaluate pages according to these criteria.

In practice, website owners should make their expertise transparent: author pages with qualifications, customer reviews, journalistic source citations, and updating old content improve E-E-A-T perception. Especially for YMYL pages, missing E-E-A-T leads to massive ranking losses. Investing in high-quality, fact-checked content with clear author authenticity has proven demonstrably effective.
