The product data feed is the foundation of every Shopping campaign, and its quality largely determines performance. Feed optimization refers to improving product data feeds for Google Shopping, Google Merchant Center, and price comparison sites. A product feed is a structured file (usually XML or CSV) containing all important product information: product title, description, price, availability, category, images, link to product page, identification numbers (GTIN, MPN), and additional attributes. A well-optimized feed increases the chance that your products are shown in Google Shopping and reach the right users.
Technically, a feed must be correctly formatted according to Google Merchant Center standards: each field must have the right data type, required fields (product title, description, price, availability) must be present, and the feed must be processed without errors by Google’s parser. Common errors: invalid price formats (with currency symbol instead of numeric), missing or incorrect images, duplicate products with different IDs, incomplete categorization, or outdated availability status.
