Google Discover

In brief

Google Discover is a personalized content feed in the Google app and Chrome that shows users content without an active search query.

What Is Google Discover?

Google Discover can deliver sudden traffic spikes that are completely independent of keywords and rankings. With hundreds of millions of users worldwide, the feed is especially relevant for publishers, blogs, and e-commerce sites that regularly publish fresh content. The key lies in visually compelling content, high E-E-A-T quality, and fast load times.

Google Discover is a personalized content feed that appears in the Google app, on Google.com (mobile), and in Chrome — separate from the classic search query. Discover shows users content based on their interests, search and browsing behavior, location, and other signals, without requiring them to submit a search query. For content publishers and website owners, Discover is an additional traffic source, often with high user numbers and a young, mobile audience. Unconventional rankings are possible here — even small or new websites can go viral if the content is high-quality and relevant.

The technical mechanism is based on Google’s ranking algorithm, which uses machine learning systems. Google analyzes page experience signals, content quality, user signals, and relevance to various interest groups. Access to Discover can be monitored via a Google Business Profile or by activating the Google Discover report in Search Console. What ranks is difficult to predict because Google’s algorithm considers thousands of signals. However, Discover favors high-quality, original content with strong user signals (clicks, dwell time, shares) as well as visual assets such as images and videos. Current, seasonal, or trending content is preferred over older pages.

When creating content, focus on quality and originality: shallow, thin content is deprioritized by Discover. High-quality visual content — large, engaging images and videos — increases the chances of appearing in Discover. A meaningful page title and a compelling meta description are important, as these are displayed in Discover and influence CTR. Regular, fresh content publications signal activity. Reviewing Google Search Console Discover reports shows which content performs in Discover — these insights should be used in your content strategy to produce more of what works.
