Journey Mapping bridges the gap between keyword research and content strategy: it shows you which questions your customers ask at which phase and what content they need there. The systematic connection of keywords with the phases of the customer journey makes your entire content planning more targeted and effective.

Journey Mapping (customer journey visualization) is a strategic method for visually representing and analyzing the entire customer journey — from problem recognition through information search to purchase. In the SEO context, journey mapping helps to understand which content and keywords are relevant at which phases of the customer journey, and enables better alignment of content strategy with actual user needs. A well-thought-out journey gives insights into which pages and keywords are crucial for which user groups and when.

The approach is iterative: you identify the various phases of the customer journey (Awareness, Consideration, Decision, Retention), define the touchpoints and pain points, and document the needs and questions of users at each phase. This information is then summarized in a visual overview — often as a diagram with phases, keywords, channels used, and emotional reactions. For SEO implementation, journey mapping means concretely: top-funnel content (TOFU) for the awareness phase with informational keywords; mid-funnel content for the consideration phase with commercial keywords; bottom-funnel content for the decision phase with transactional keywords.
