A niche is a specialized topic area or market segment characterized by less competition but higher relevance for a specific audience. Technically, niche SEO works by focusing on specific long-tail keywords with lower search volume but higher conversion intent. A niche website about “vegan running apparel” doesn’t compete with large online stores for broad keywords like “running shoes,” but instead positions itself for specialized queries. This requires less authority and fewer backlinks to become visible. Google rewards specialized, highly relevant content that appeals to a more narrowly defined audience.
For niche websites, it makes sense to choose a clear thematic focus and build on it consistently. Rather than going broad, a niche website should build Topical Authority within its segment. This works through interconnected content around related, specific topics, high-quality external links from relevant pages, and authentic community building.
