Product Schema

In brief

Product Schema is structured JSON-LD markup that communicates product information such as name, price, availability, and reviews to Google.

What is Product Schema?

For online stores, Product Schema is one of the most effective SEO levers with the best cost-benefit ratio: Rich Results with stars and prices increase click-through rates by up to 30 percent. At the same time, Google uses the data for Google Shopping and product carousels. Most shop systems like Shopify and WooCommerce generate Product Schema automatically — check with the Rich Results Test whether all fields are filled in correctly.

Product Schema is a structured data markup (JSON-LD) that tells Google and other search engines information about a product: name, description, price, availability, reviews, and images. With Product Schema, e-commerce websites can generate Rich Results in search results — instead of just a link, title, and description, users also see price, star rating, and availability status. This significantly increases the click-through rate (CTR) as users have more information before clicking.

Technically, Product Schema is embedded as JSON-LD code in the <head> or <body> of the page. The code follows the Schema.org standard and must contain accurate data — incorrect prices, reviews, or availability information can lead to penalties in Google Shopping or search results. Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool can verify that the schema is correctly implemented. Google uses Product Schema not only for Rich Results, but also for Google Shopping and Product Reviews.

In practice, every product page should have Product Schema — it’s now standard on professional e-commerce sites. Important fields are: name, description, image, price, priceCurrency, availability, aggregateRating (if reviews are present). Adding Product Schema can increase CTR by 20–30%, since Rich Results are more eye-catching. Many CMS systems like Shopify and WooCommerce generate Product Schema automatically. For custom solutions, it must be added manually — an investment that pays off for any online store.
