This automation reduces manual bidding work and uses Google’s massive data volume to set better bids than humans — leading to lower costs at better performance.
Technically, Smart Bidding works through neural networks that analyze millions of historical auction data points: weather, geolocation, device, time of day, competitor bids, and hundreds more signals are evaluated in milliseconds. For every impression (every single possible ad delivery), an optimal bid is calculated that optimizes the target metric (conversions, ROAS). This is far more precise than manual bids that react to average values. Google does require sufficient conversion data (at least 30 conversions per month) for Smart Bidding to work well.
