What Is Vibe Coding?

For marketing teams and business departments, vibe coding opens up the possibility of building small tools and prototypes independently, without waiting for the IT department. The quality of the generated code depends directly on the precision of your description — making prompt engineering a core competency. Note, however, that generated code can contain security vulnerabilities and expert review before production use remains important.

Vibe coding is a term coined by Andrej Karpathy that describes a new way of programming: instead of writing code manually, you describe in natural language what the software should do — and the AI generates the corresponding code. The name comes from the idea that you focus on the “vibes” — the desired behavior and outcome — while the AI handles the technical implementation.

The difference from Agentic Coding is important: with vibe coding, the human remains in the lead role. You describe step by step what should happen, review the result, and correct as needed with further natural language instructions. Agentic coding goes further — there the AI plans and acts independently. Vibe coding is especially suited for prototypes, small tools, and non-programmers who want to create functional software.

For businesses, vibe coding opens new possibilities: business departments can create simple applications themselves without waiting for the IT department. At the same time, the approach carries risks — generated code can contain security vulnerabilities or be poorly maintainable. Prompt engineering becomes a core competency here: the more precise the description, the better the result.
