What Is Entity SEO?

Google no longer thinks in keywords but in entities and their relationships. Entity SEO is the response: instead of optimizing individual keywords, you position your brand as a recognizable entity in the Knowledge Graph. This improves not only your rankings in classic search but also your visibility in Knowledge Panels and AI answers, where only clearly identified entities get cited.

Entity SEO refers to search engine optimization around entities rather than individual keywords. The approach is based on the fact that Google evaluates pages not only by how often a keyword appears, but primarily by how well a page explains an entity (person, place, brand, concept) in its entirety and connects it with other entities. Entity SEO is the modern answer to semantic search engines and is becoming increasingly important for rankings.

Technically, entity SEO works through structured data, trusted linking, and contextual optimization. Page titles, meta tags, and content should clearly represent an entity; schema markup helps Google understand the entity and its properties. A local dental practice should position itself as the entity “dentist Hamburg” rather than only optimizing for individual keywords like “teeth cleaning” or “implants.” This leads to better rankings, higher topical authority, and ideally Knowledge Panel entries.
