What Is Scaled Content Abuse?

Since the March 2024 Core Update, Google has deindexed hundreds of websites that published mass AI-generated content without value. The message is clear: the method of creation is not decisive, but the benefit to the reader. If you use programmatic SEO or AI content, ensure each individual page offers independent value — otherwise you risk a manual action affecting your entire domain.

Scaled content abuse is a Google spam policy in effect since March 2024 that targets the mass production of content primarily aimed at ranking manipulation. It does not matter whether the content was created manually, automatically, or with AI — what matters is the purpose. When thousands of pages are produced without genuine value in order to dominate search results, scaled content abuse is present.

Google introduced this policy in response to the flood of AI-generated content. Before this update, the spam policy only covered “automatically generated content.” The new wording is deliberately technology-neutral: whether a human, an AI tool, or a combination of both created the content plays no role. What counts is whether the content provides substantial value to users or merely aims to achieve maximum rankings at minimal cost.
